The San Roque golf course is divided into two courses:- Old Course And New Course.
San Roque new course was designed by Perry Dyne. There are 18 holes. Par 72. 7244 yards.
Location:
The golf course is situated in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja, giving wonderful views to the Guadalquiton River and the Mediterranean sea beyound.
Description:
The San Roque New Course is the latest edition to the superb golfing complex.
With its sister course San Roque, it adds to one side of the golden triangle of Spanish golf along with the world famous courses of Sotogrande and Valderrama.
The idea to create a new course was to set a challenge for scratch and low handicap golfers, but that is also possible for higher handicap players to enjoy. To that end each hole has five different tee positions and fairways that are wider than those on the Old Course. Nevertheless these fairways are designed to reward canny tactics and skilful drive placement. Water hazards guard four of the greens, also defended by more than a hundred strategic bunkers, which lie in wait for wayward or ambitious drivers.
As for the layout of the new course, there are ten par 4's, 4 par 5's and three par 3's. The par 3's are particularly impressive, with the shortest hole being 160 metres off the yellow tees. The placement of the tees is also impressive, giving tee shots over difficult terrain to greens surrounded by bunkers that are certainly extreme in places!.
It is a course where you have to think your way round and you must take notice of the posts that give you the distances at 100, 150 and 200 metres. Sometimes you are given the impression it is not as far as the marker posts suggest but you should trust what is showing. If you play the original San Roque course then you should take the time to include this course in your itinerary.
The plentiful growth of mature cork oaks, San Roque's excellent weather, soil drainage and irrigation plus the expertise of the experienced team of green keepers means that the club's new course is expected to bed in quickly. It will then provide a thrilling alternative to the rigours of The Old Course.
