Alcazaba Fortress
The Alcazaba is one of the most famous of Malaga’s landmarks. This grand fortress sits on the top of a hill overlooking the port of Malaga. Most of the building was built in the 11th century, but it was completed by the 15th century. It was constructed for king Badis and served as the summer palace for the governors of the region. There are two walled enclosures – the outer one follows the topography of the hill and covers the inner structure completely. The outer wall also has defensive towers at regular distances. The Alcazaba can be accessed through the main entrance: Puerta de la Boveda. The pathway that leads up the castle has been decorated with landscaped gardens and artistic water fountains. A lift has also been installed here to go up the castle.
