Pablo Picasso Museum
Malaga is where Picasso was born, and the city has raised a museum on honour of the master sculptor and painter. It was Picasso’s own wish that his works should be on display in the city of his birth. Christine and Bernard Ruiz Picasso took special efforts to make the museum a reality. The museum is housed in the 17th century Buenavista Palace which has been restored to house the important collection. The museum was inaugurated on 27th October, 2003 at the hands of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain. The museum has become very popular with tourists and Picasso fans. Often, long queues can be seen outside the museum and
Christine and Bernard Ruiz Picasso donated 200 pieces of art from their private collection to the museum. It has been divided into 12 halls to accommodate the extensive collection. The range of the collection here extends from ceramic, sculptures, paintings to sketches and drawings by the artist. There are famous works on display here like: ‘Mother and Child’ and ‘Portrait of Paulo with white hat’.
