The Focus appears to be well screwed together, but hard, cheap-looking plastics have been used for the lower reaches of the cabin and the centre console. Still, Ford has a decent reliability record and there's nothing to suggest that the engines and mechanicals won't prove hardy.
The Focus has a firm low-speed ride that’s firmer on sporty trims. However, it soaks up the worst of urban streets well. At higher speeds, the quality of the ride is excellent and the excellent handling puts the Focus back as the class leader in this area.
Ford has toned down the new Focus’s dash design compared with the old model’s, but it is still a paragon of simplicity to use and clearly laid out. The driving position is excellent and the driver’s seat height is now adjusted using a simple ratchet lever, while reach- and rake- adjustment for the steering wheel helps most people to find their ideal driving position.
The driving position is excellent, with a greater range of adjustment than in the old car. Worries about the steeply sloping rear roofline of the Focus are not borne out when sitting in the back seat. Instead, there’s good headroom and an airy feel to the rear of the cabin. The boot is generous and a practical, rectangular shape with no irritating intrusions from the wheelarches.
