This bustling tourist resort is situated 7kms away from Malaga airport. This fishing village has had a makeover shopping centers share space with the traditional fresh fish shops; and the restaurants and cafes haven’t edged out the old-fashioned pubs and bars in the streets of the town. The old fishing village of La Carihuela still retains a lot of character; and a walk down its quiet alleys will reveal a charming village: pretty houses with flower bedecked balconies, pleasant people, and relaxed atmosphere. In the town center there are some streets marked as ‘pedestrian only’. Along these streets are modest shops and restaurants. While the ritzy shopping malls carry international brands and names, these cozy shops display traditional Andalucian arts, crafts and wares made by local artisans and indigenous industry. The clean and sandy beaches are lined with beach apartments and cottages, swanky hotels, bars and restaurants. There is no dearth of things to do on the beach. There are the chiringuitos (beach bars), and a myriad of seasonal sporting activities like windsurfing, paragliding, water skiing and pedal boats. With the beaches for a backdrop, and the hotels and restaurants fully geared, the nightlife is pulsating. In a different vein, you may also enjoy the performances of the street entertainers who come out on the streets at night.
A lot of public parks have come up in the city; and throughout the city a thousand species of trees ranging from the exotic magnolia and banana tree to vibrantly colourful beds of roses and azaleas have been planted.
